Natural Family Photography: why I love my photography style

Autumn is a such a beautiful time to be a London family photographer, I haven’t come up for air so far this October, with so many lovely family sessions booked in to max out on the beautiful skies and leaves turning. Now that Autumn is well and truly upon us, I’m wistfully looking back at some photos of my own family from this Summer, which I think will forever be remembered as the Best Summer Yet! I don’t think I can remember so much sunshine and clear blue skies for weeks on end - my mediterranean blood was EXTREMELY happy with the warm climes we enjoyed in the UK! We had a series of “staycations” this Summer, from the beautiful North Norfolk coast to Devon and finally up to Cumbria, and they were all amazing!

Looking through these photos really reinforces to me why I love being a lifestyle photographer so much: my children are ALWAYS on the move and if I was constantly trying to make them sit still so that I could compose the “perfect” image I just wouldn’t be showcasing them and their lovely, bubbly personalities wouldn’t shine through in the same way. The thing I love about capturing my family (and yours!) just as they are is that we are then able to freeze real moments, real memories and when we look back in years to come our family albums will be so much more meaningful than a group of static poses.

That’s why when I photograph a new family, I always make sure I tailor the session to suit you perfectly. That means if you have a busy family like mine that like to roam around outdoors and not sit still, that’s exactly what we’ll do on our session, but if you’re a family who like to craft or play indoors - that’s great too. The most important thing is that everyone feels happy and relaxed in doing something they normally would, and that I’m able to catch the magic of your unique family. I’m always being told by my new clients that my sessions were so much more relaxed and natural than they were imagining a “photoshoot” might be, and nothing makes me feel happier! I still have memories of my mum frogmarching us down to the local photographers studio in Cambridge when we were kids, and being forced to sit in the most unnatural poses and “smile” for the camera - definitely not a photo I’ll be sharing here…I wasn’t having any of it!!

Summer 2018, you have been an absolute dream. I’ll be showing these blue skies to my children for years to come to remind them of the lovely scorching weather we enjoyed!

If you are looking for a London family photographer who specialises in natural, unposed photos, please do get in touch, I still have some November slots to fill just in time for you to give the photos as Christmas presents :-)
